Sharing a pint is always a space for honest words (or as Benjamin Franklin supposedly said,
“In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria”).
American artist Leah Thomason Bromberg’s Matersbier offers space for honest and
hopeful exchanges as it pushes back against today’s political climate that includes
inflammatory speech, tribalism, and disturbing accounts of beer-drinking in the Senate.
Drawings mounted onto beer coasters serve as sites for these exchanges, small paintings
on paper echo the ephemera of beer labels and advertisements, and larger paintings on
canvas recall moments the artist herself shared a beer and a bit of herself.
